Process Mapping

Process mapping has become increasingly important in our daily work. It is used as a way of conceptualising and communicating complex activities in an abstract, visual and concise manner. Process maps are also paramount for any process improvement initiative, system implementation and other changes. This workshop is targeted to those who want to learn how processes are structured, defined and represented using diagramming methodologies, software tools and process templates.

In this program participants will learn to:

  • Identify and define a process
  • Understand how processes fit within the policy, compliance and strategic framework
  • Recognise other process related diagrams and diagramming methodologies behind processes
  • Conceptualise, identify and apply each process component in a map
  • Draw process diagrams from scratch to end, as flowcharts and swimlanes
  • Use online diagramming tools to draw processes
  • Document a process in detail by using basic templates
  • Apply main process improvement methodologies to a process

Process Improvement

This challenging one-day program is targeted to practitioners keen to learn how to review processes applying a mix of techniques, tools and methodologies. This session introduces a methodology known as ‘8 Steps to Tango’ which sequentially and uniquely steps through process reviews stages that can be applied to any organisation. This program was inspired by various process improvement methodologies initially designed for the manufacturing industry (BPR, BPI, Six Sigma, Lean, BPM, TQM and Kaizen, amongst others) but practically applied to the government, education and other service sectors.

In this program participants will learn to:

  • Define measurable objectives for the review
  • Consider the must-haves required to succeed
  • Identify key stakeholders and consider strategies to manage risk
  • Define scope and the key elements needed in a process review plan
  • Apply techniques to gather information and map the current process
  • Identify process symptoms and analyse the cause of process dysfunctions
  • Apply process design principles and techniques to map the improved process
  • Apply implementation techniques to facilitate process change
  • Introduce continuous process improvement techniques to keep the process current and future-proof
